In 2006, Awava's Founding Director, Kate von Achen, traveled to Uganda for the first time to work with fair trade coffee farmers at Kirembe Kawomera Coffee Cooperative in Mbale District, Uganda. It was then that her passion for fair trade, and love of Uganda grew, sewing the seeds for Awava.
Awava is excited this World Fair Trade Day to collaborate with Thanksgiving Coffee Company, an ethical coffee importer, roaster and retailer who buys all of Mirembe Kawomera's coffee!
