Our Uganda Friday:September 17, 2010

by Hanna Schwing

The Bayimba International Festival of Arts is going on in Kampala this weekend. Organized by the Bayimba Cultural Foundation, the festival brings together artists from around the world for musical performances, visual arts exhibitions, live painting and film screenings with the goal of encouraging artistic appreciation, development and collaboration in Uganda.

I had plans for most of Friday, but I did manage to see Friday's last performance on the main stage, Karim Sava, a Ugandan musician. A significant crowd swayed in the parking lot of the National Theatre during the performance, which was fairly amazing. Personally, I'm really curious to see how Saturday's crowd reacts to the bizarre Norwegian music, performance and video artist, Ane Lan.
