About a month ago I was lucky enough to see Somi perform live at a benefit for the SISI Project. Somi was born in Illinois to Ugandan and Rwandan parents. After completing her degree and doing research in Kenya and Tanzania, she moved to New York and made a name for herself in the underground soul music scene.
The performance was breathtaking. Backed by an exceptional band, Somi's vocals shone. She mainly performs in the US, so make it a point to see her if she's in your area.
